Frequently Asked Questions

How do you come up with your stories?

Initially, we look into the past for our story line.  We try to draw from historical periods we find particularly interesting and fun to explore. Next, we allow that period to suggest a character or characters whose lives we will follow. We establish a conflict for our protagonist that is left unresolved in the past and project how that conflict might play out in the present.

Are any of the people in the House of M. Lucretius real people or people you know?

Most writers draw from their own experiences and interactions with other people. Some of our friends ask if a particular character is based on them. Of course, we always tell them, “Yes.” However, as psychologists, we have been very careful not to draw on any of our past or present clients’ lives or stories.

What’s it like to write as co-authors?

We have found it really rewarding because our strengths and weaknesses balance each other's. The collaborations seem to increase our creativity. Bouncing story lines off each other, things really grow. We can quickly work through obstacles one or the other of us encounters and ideas seem to flow more smoothly. Also, it has been motivating knowing you have to face your co-author with the next piece.

How much research did you do about the Roman Empire?

Months! The actual research began months before we began writing. However, it continued during the writing process as questions came up.

Do you believe in reincarnation?

Yes! We both have remembered past lives and we have witnessed the process in others.

How can you find out about your past lives?

There are many different ways. Some people report dreams that are more vivid and more lifelike and these dreams tend to be reoccurring. Some people have spontaneous memories as Maggie did. These are generally triggered by a person, place, or thing. Hypnosis performed by a trained, reputable licensed or certified hypnotherapist can open the door to the past. Young children often remember, but seem to forget as they get older. Mediums can sometimes perceive past lives for an individual. However, if trying this route, do you’re research first! There is no license to demonstrate genuine talent. Also, the recovered memories through personal experience rather than being told about a past life have greater likelihood of promoting growth in a person’s life.

How do you tell the difference between imagination and a past life?

If you want 100% proof, you are unlikely to get it. Some people, however, are able to trace names, dates, and details to confirm the information. Even then skeptics will suggest access to a universal consciousness rather than accept a past life. Or they will say the individual has seen this information before and just doesn’t remember. Whether, it is a past life or imagination does not seem to matter when it comes to changing the present life for the better.
